"The Water of Life”
Whisky* is a shortened form of usquebaugh, which English borrowed from Irish Gaelic uisce beatha and Scottish Gaelic uisge beatha. This compound descends from Old Irish uisce, "water," and bethad, "of life," and meaning literally "water of life.”
For more than a decade, we here at Downing Street Pub have gathered the finest collection of hand-selected whiskys from around the world. Over the years, we have fostered a deep love and appreciation for whisky and would now like to share our ardor with all those passionate about the distilled elixir.
Our desire is to assemble an association of the faithful, and we now send out an invitation to those who not only delight in drinking whisky, but crave a deeper understanding of the history and craft of whisky production.
Each month a Downing Street Pub, a group of whisky nerds will gather to share our zeal for spirits and discuss the intricacies of the art of whisky. We are tremendously fortunate to have a true master distiller attend our first gathering - Chris Morris, the master distiller responsible for maintaining the award-winning taste of Woodford Reserve bourbon, will be visiting Downing Street Pub on Wednesday, April 8th, to help kick off the release of the second private bottling of Downing Street Ltd Woodford Reserve bourbon and discuss the finer points of being a master whisky craftsman. Downing Street Ltd Woodford Reserve has been hand-selected by members of Downing Street’s staff to compliment our casual but elegant setting, and we believe it is the perfect selection to inaugurate this monthly event.
